Pressbox (Press Release) - An Ayrshire pensioner who survived a horrific road crash is celebrating her golden wedding anniversary by releasing her debut novel.
Mary Matthews, who writes under the name K T Rosselini, has crafted a stunning science fiction thriller, Shared Intelligence, based on her own post-accident experiences.
Shared Intelligence is an accomplished first novel from the grandmother of two.
Set in present-day England, Mary’s gripping story brings to life a former super model who is left disfigured following a road traffic accident.
A pioneering surgeon attempts to give Alanna back the looks and the life she previously enjoyed.
Much of Mary’s brilliant first book is based on her own horrific experience of being left both mentally and physically scarred following a crash.
She explained: “Parts of Shared Intelligence are based on my own experiences following a road traffic accident and the head injuries I suffered.
“I witnessed first-hand the cruelty exhibited by ignorant people who appeared to totally lack compassion.
“Shared Intelligence follows Alanna, a woman who faced extreme suffering in a horrific traffic accident and is left horribly disfigured and cruelly treated by people who can’t see past the damage.
“Research had to be done for Shared Intelligence.
“I did considerable research into nanotechnology and medical techniques in order to have a better understanding of it and to develop the characters fully.”
Mary celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary last month (September).
The 70-year-old from Muirkirk, who is already working on a sequel, admits her favourite place for picking up the pen is in her bed.
Mary said: “It isn’t easy to find time to write, although that has never prevented me from doing so.
“My favourite place to relax and get stuck into writing is my bedroom, and usually when I’m in my bed.
“I find that my thought process has more clarity during the late evening and into the early hours.
“It’s when the characters write their own stories.”
Mary, again under the pen name of K T Rosselini, is putting the finishing touches to the sequel to Shared Intelligence, which is set several decades in the future.
