Glocs writer inspired by time in jail fighting apartheid

Pressbox (Press Release) - Gloucestershire vet Sean Peter writes from the heart and from experience when it comes to his gripping novels.
The 58-year-old spent almost five years locked up by the authorities for his anti-apartheid stance during his time in South Africa.
The Irish-born activist released his debut novel, The Wish Dogtor, to critical acclaim and five-star reviews in 2019.
Although mainly fictional, the gripping adventure leans heavily on Sean’s own veterinary training and anti-government campaigning in the 1970s and 80s.
And four years on the well-travelled writer has finally released the highly anticipated sequel, The Ruffled Owl.
Sean, who now lives in the Cotswolds, said: “I was born in County Clare, but having spent my formative years in Eswatini and South Africa I became an apartheid activist.
“If I wasn’t training as a veterinary practitioner, I was incarcerated in an apartheid prison.”
The Ruffled Owl takes up the story of protagonist Sean, who throws himself head-first into the anti-apartheid movement.
Unable to shout from the sidelines any longer, the young vet becomes a member of a banned political organization’s armed wing.
As with The Wish Dogtor, Sean’s latest thrilling page-turner is mainly set in southern Africa and Swaziland.
Writing with authority and passion, The Ruffled Owl is perfectly paced and packed with vivid imagery and unexpected twists.
Sean, whose favourite authors include Joseph Conrad, Thomas Hardy and Lee Child, said: “This is not an autobiography – it is a highly embellished account of what I experienced with many fictional characters.
“In this sequel to The Wish Dogtor, Sean is assigned to move young recruits illegally across neighbouring countries' borders.
“Inevitably, he is arrested and sent to prison – but on transfer to the High Court, he escapes and goes on the run.”
Away from writing novels and helping animals at his veterinary practice, Sean’s great passion is ocean sailing.
