Saffron Summer Indian restaurant in Chessington, ranked number one Indian restaurant in Surrey on the Trip Advisor* reviews website, is now offering a ‘Kebab, Biryani at Street Food Feast’ every Wednesday.
Dishes include succulent skewered meats, juicy vegetables, a selection of five different kebabs prepared in different cooking styles, inspired by traditional and contemporary Indian recipes.
Also on offer are Mumbai style street foods and dum cooked biryanis. These authentic biryanis, are cooked traditionally in a clay pot sealed with pastry (which is broken at the table), sealing in subtle spicy flavours and ensuring the rice is light and fluffy, whilst the chicken retains its moisture.
The feast is priced at just £14.95 per head (£8.95 for children below 10 years).
On Mondays and Tuesday evenings, Saffron Summer will also offer a similarly priced special 2-course meal, accompanied by rice or naan and a drink.
“Being voted the number one Indian restaurant in the whole of Surrey on TripAdvisor (and number three for all cuisines) is a great achievement,” said owner Ralf Sousa, adding, “I opened Saffron Summer to educate locals to the delights of authentic Indian food and demonstrate that there’s more to the cuisine than just that in typical curry house – these new offers allow more people to try fine Indian dining.”
Ralph Sousa and his executive chef and business partner, the classically trained Awanish Roy, who previously worked at the exclusive Cinnamon Club in Westminster, have designed menus to showcase the diverse ranged of foods from across the Indian sub-continent.
These include game dishes from places like Coorg in Karnataka, seafood specialities from the coastal belt of Goa, Kerala and Malwan, and more traditional Moghulai, Awadhi, Rajasthani and Punjabi dishes.
“I’ve merged the exquisite flavours of Asia with the timeless techniques of Indian cuisine to create a unique global contemporary style,” said Awanish Roy.
The a la carte menu features Wild Boar Vindaloo (using owner Ralph Sousa’s mother-in-law’s recipe.
Guinea Fowl Banjara, a dish from the nomadic tribes of Ladakh –with peanut and dry mango marinade, filled with corn and mushroom, egg masala; and Chinese fusion from Chinatown of Calcutta.

The short, seasonal menu also offers Indian street foods, Indian tapas for lunch and a special Sunday Indian roast lunch.
On Monday 24th October Saffron Summer will host fundraising dinner for National Curry Week (22nd – 28th October). Saffron Summer serve a special menu costing £25 a head, £5 of which will be donated to Curry For Change www.curryforchange.org.uk.
Saffron Summer has also been shortlisted for a prestigious Asian Curry Award, the winners of which will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Grosvenor House on London’s Park Lane on 18th November. www.AsianCurryAwards.com.
