November 14, 2017 - Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest district cooling services provider, announced that it has expanded its workforce by almost 10 per cent, with a remarkable increase of 15% in the number of Emirati employees, following the signing of new contracts and renewal of existing projects. The company’s capacity is predicted to increase by end of 2017, which will require highly-trained and dedicated staff to meet the growing demand in its networks.
Empower has been expanding its network of district cooling transmission pipelines, which crossed 236 kilometres by end of 2016 due to continuous business growth. District cooling services are further gaining popularity in the UAE and are increasingly being adopted globally as energy-efficient and cost-effective air-conditioning solutions, which support global efforts towards mitigating climate change through optimized energy use. These technologies reduce energy consumption, and thereby help cut carbon dioxide emissions. District cooling has been endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme as one of the six energy efficiency accelerators under the UN’s ‘Sustainable Energy for All’ initiative.
Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO, Empower, said: “Further to our efforts to deliver highly-efficient district cooling services, Empower has embarked on new expansions in our human resources to fill in the gap in various departments, which have witnessed increased activities this year, following the growth in business. The staff are highly-trained in various fields and meet the qualifications based on international standards. The positive reception of the property sector in investing in environmental sustainability is a key factor to our growth as well as seeing the economic benefits of shifting to district cooling. We anticipate that the market will continue to increase demand, which is why we felt the need to proactively broaden our human resource capability.”
To ensure new staff fully understands the value of the company’s business activities, Empower has provided various seminars on topics including climate change adaptation and best practices in green buildings. It also conducts training in first aid and fire-fighting, electrical fault-finding procedures, uninterrupted power supply, and road safety awareness, among others.
Empower provides environmentally responsible district cooling services to large-scale real estate developments such as Jumeirah Group, Business Bay, Jumeirah Beach Residence, Dubai International Financial Centre, Palm Jumeirah, Jumeirah Lake Towers, Ibn Battuta Mall, Discovery Gardens, Dubai Healthcare City, Dubai World trade Centre Residences, Dubai Design District, among others.
