The field of tissue repair and wound healing has blossomed in the last 35 years. We have gone from various recombinant growth factors, to living tissue engineering constructs, to stem cells. The task now is to pursue true regeneration, thus achieving full restoration of structures and functions of Tissue. The term Tissue repair when used in the context of the healing of damaged tissue, is defined as the restoration of the tissue architecture and function after an injury. It encompasses two separate processes: regeneration and replacement. Stem cell therapy aims to replace damaged or aged cells with that of healthy and functioning cells in congenital defects, tissue injuries, autoimmune disorders, and neurogenic degenerative diseases.
