VIRTUAL FALLS SERVICE HELPING TO SAVE TIME AND REDUCE PRESSURE ON HEALTH SERVICES

Added: (Thu Nov 24 2022)

Pressbox (Press Release) - THOUSANDS of care home residents across the country are avoiding an ambulance trip and admission to hospital after falling, resulting in crucial time being saved thanks to an innovative 24/7 virtual clinical service.
With around 4,500 falls per day in care homes, Immedicare are helping to tackle the number one reason for care home residents attending emergency departments in England utilising 24/7 NHS video-enabled clinical support
This effective and efficient remote support is being provided to support carers with falls in care homes, as around two in five of their hospital admissions are currently fall-related.

Immedicare has undertaken 26,000 fall-related consultations over a four-year period resulting in 85% of residents being able to stay in the home. By providing fast and easy access for care homes to experienced clinical support, time is being saved across the health and care system allowing ambulances, hospitals, nurses and therapists to focus treatment and care on those people who need it most.

Michael Roach, Director of Strategic Health Alliances, said: “Health and care services are under extreme pressure and it is crucial that we are able to help people stay well and avoid a visit to hospital, especially after a fall. It’s pleasing to see our Immedicare service is helping care homes and the wider system to provide the best care possible for the residents in the home.
“Our figures show that over 14,000 ‘potentially unnecessary’ ambulance attendances have been avoided, resulting in a saving of over 21,000 hours of ambulance service time.”

Immedicare is providing care homes with access to a highly effective clinical hub, staffed by registered practitioners, enabling non-registered care home staff to be supervised remotely and supported to carry out tasks and care. Assessments of residents who have fallen and the development of a falls risk assessment and prevention plan can be carried out remotely.

Rachel Binks, Nurse Consultant and Clinical Lead for the Digital Care Hub at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Hospital is the last place that people want to be this winter, especially with the expected increase in infections. Thanks to our falls service we are reducing the requirement for an ambulance trip or a stay in hospital for people in many areas across the country.

“We are committed to supporting the effective delivery of a high-quality virtual health and social care service which saves time and ensures that care home residents get the best treatment possible.”

This winter, Immedicare will support health and care systems across the UK through immediate access to a safe, high quality, kind and compassionate video enabled care service for residents living in nursing and residential care.
