Can Cell & Gene Therapy Overcome Challenge to Replace Modern Medicine?

Added: (Mon Dec 17 2018)

Pressbox (Press Release) - After the approval of the first two CAR –T cell therapies for cancer in the US, the blood cancer treatment has transformed tremendously. Apart from the CAR–T cell therapy, Spark’s Luxturna therapy to fix the genetic mutation that causes blindness can be used soon in Europe. Though this wave of change is driving the treatments which seemed impossible few years ago, it is important to remember that this field is still in its initial stage and certain critical challenges still need to be resolved.
The development of an ideal vector system is the biggest challenge in gene therapy as of now. The ideal vector is able to deliver genes effectively and is easy to administer. It should also be very specific when it comes to target cells. Other challenges include adverse events such as Cytokine storms which poses a danger of putting clinical trials on hold. Along with these challenges, the industry is also facing hurdles like difficulty in procuring funding and global regulatory differences.
In an initiative to explore the advancements, innovation and challenges faced in cell and gene therapies, UMS Conferences announces Excellence - The Cell & Gene Therapy Conclave, scheduled on 21 -22 March 2019 in London, UK.
150+ decision makers and active innovators from a diverse range of pharma and biotech companies as well as academia and research institutions will be joining the conclave to discuss critical topics such as Stem Cell Bioprocessing, Stem Cell Manufacturing, 3D Cell Culture and many more.
