Bristol writer transports readers with debut novel

New author FozilaChowdhry is hoping to transport readers to another continent with the publication of her debut novel.
And she’s doing it all from the comfort of her local library.
The 54-year-old from Bristol, who is a prize-winning reviewer, has released Crisis Under the Sahara Sun to critical acclaim.
With a gripping plot, unexpected twists and engaging characters, Fozila’s first-full length book is already gaining plaudits from thrilled readers.
But the former Avon County council clerk typist clerk believes it is the imagery of Morocco which will have most of her readers spellbound.
Fozila explained: “Crisis Under the Sahara Sun is based in different parts of Morocco.
“I chose North Africa because it is so different from Europe and the United States, and will encourage readers to engage in something exotic.
“The book might help a reader soar with his or her imagination - and who knows, he or she might want to visit the country, at some point, in their lifetime?”
Set in 1975, Crisis Under the Sun follows the fortunes of a small group of English tourists who venture deep into the unspoilt towns and cities of Morocco.
Culture and scenery are top of their wish-lists, but as they expand their travels out to the surrounding mountains and deserts the book takes a dark twist.
With influences including James Herbert, Crisis Under the Sahara Sun seamlessly slips from enjoyable adventure into horror.
While readers can be forgiven for thinking Fozila wrote the thriller in Marrakech or Casablanca, she travelled no further than her local library.
The mother-of-two explained: “I feel I receive more ideas and inspiration outside the home, so I make time in the afternoon to write in the library.
“I was 11 years old when I started reading fiction, I have always loved being around the library.
“It was a friend who encouraged me to write a book - he set me a challenge to write a five-page story about a group of people stranded on an island.
“My mind took a different turn, so what was to be a five-page story turned out to be a book based in a country of North Africa.”
Having received the glowing reviews from early readers of Crisis Under the Sahara Sun, Fozila has decided to turn her page-turner into a series, but not until she has written her next book based in a 19th century Bristol brothel. She has already started researching for the book. The next two books following her debut novel, Crisis Under the Sahara Sun, will be based in Spain and hopefully in India. Theywill be researched into and written at some point in the near future.
