New Hampshire writer loves writing in coffee shops

Added: (Tue Jun 11 2024)

Pressbox (Press Release) - New Hampshire author Mark Le Lerre can thank his local Costa café and the people he looks after for his thrilling dystopian debut novel.
The 56-year-old, who works as a carer for adults with learning disabilities, has just published the impressive page-turner, Insolvent.
And he admits the complex and engaging storyline came from quiet moments of pondering at his favourite coffee store.
Mark, whose favourite authors include Bernard Cornwell and Terry Pratchett, explained: “Insolvent is pure fiction and was borne from me sitting in a Costa and wondering if a future society could survive without the need for production of goods.
“I always love writing in a coffee shop.
“I'm inspired to write by life in general, but also the people with learning disabilities that I work with in the care industry.
“Some of the disabled people I've cared for are uncommunicative, and I'd love to have been able to sit down with them and have a conversation.
“I know they’d have so much to say.”
Insolvent is a gripping futuristic thriller that follows the fortunes of scientists, Beth and Elizabeth, who attempt to repair the broken society.
But their attempts at technological advances only create deeper problems for the survivors.
Mark’s unpredictable and highly original novel explores the fragile relationship between nature and science where an already heavily destructed society hangs by a thread.
Mark’s authoritative narrative, compelling characterisation and perfect pacing makes Insolvent a stunning work of science fiction.
The divorced dad added: “Insolvent is a dystopian study of a future where society breaks down and the survivors start again.
“The scientists inadvertently set the wheels in motion for global meltdown as they innocently try to better the world.
“Insolvent questions the fragility of our society and the possibilities for science to work either for or against humanity, depending on the morals of those who control it.”
Readers of Insolvent won’t be surprised by Mark’s literary influences of Orwell’s 1984 or Pratchett’s Disc World series.
Following the successful launch of his debut novel, he is now working on the first draft of a sequel.
