Dartford & Sidcup Theatretrain

Added: (Tue Apr 05 2005)

Professional dancer, Joanna Belcher, is sharing her Theatre experience with the youth of the area in Kent through our very own Dartford & Sidcup Theatretrain.

Having danced on TV as well as appearing in many Theatre Productions, Jo has now turned her abilities to her local area.

Dartford & Sidcup Theatretrain very successfully opened its doors to budding young actors, singers and dancers, aged between 6 and 18 years, two years ago.

Wilmington Grammar School for Gilrs in Wilmington and Kemnal Technology College in Sidcup are a hive of activity when all of the new intakes join in the classes, which run on Saturdays for three hours.

Jo said: "I'm really excited about this new term. Not only are our young students getting the chance to act, dance and sing every week, but we have some very special extra activities planned as well.

"We are starting rehearsals this term for our forthcoming West End Production. All pupils attending Theatretrain will appear in a huge Production called ‘License to Thrill’ this is based on the movies James Bond. The production is taking place at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane on the 3rd July and the pupils can not wait.

Also Dartford & Sidcup pupils have successfully auditioned and gained parts in the Production of ‘Bash the Bard’ which is a Shakespeare performance being held at Her Majesty’s Theatre in March".

Theatretrain was set up Eleven years ago, to give children the opportunity to have fun while learning the performing arts.

In July 2004, over 1,500 children from 29 centres around the UK came together at The Dominion Theatre, where ‘We will Rock You’ is currently playing, to be part of ‘The Long and Winding Road.

Theatretrain has four famous patrons and produces West End theatre productions for all children, irrespective of ability, who join Theatretrain.

Every class is geared to children having fun as they learn, while also building confidence, ability and teamwork.

Many children from Theatretrain have appeared in West End productions, including The King & I and Whistle Down The Wind, as well as TV and film work.

But the goal of Theatretrain isn't necessarily to put kids in the limelight, it's designed to help children see the potential of what they could be.

Anyone wishing to join Theatretrain at Sidcup or Dartford can request a prospectus by calling Joanna on 01732 840 856, or visit www.theatretrain.co.uk for more information.
