Is your company stuck in another era?
A new book by Carol Kinsey Goman shows how companies today are struggling by without capitalizing on one of their most important assets, “knowledge sharing.”
Ghost Story: A Modern Business Fable is about a young employee who is appointed as a team member for a new project. Dot realizes the team isn’t functioning well, but because of her inexperience, compared to other team members, she feels uncomfortable sharing her thoughts. Through her own little magical adventure, she meets a wide array of
characters and learns the various reasons why employees are reluctant to share what they know. The book shows how companies create pitfalls by using techniques of past times and gives suggestions of new guidelines to follow.
Unlike many business books, this book is very easy to read. It is a small book, less than 120 pages, but very poignant. The lesson of the book comes across very loud and clear, like many other fables do.
While reading the book, I noticed instances in my own company where “knowledge sharing” could have helped our clients greatly and am now implementing a “knowledge sharing” workshop for my own employees. As we enter the information age, every manager and business professional needs the insights and lessons from this book.
There is an old saying, “Knowledge is Power.” But as shown on the cover of the book, a better saying for the business world today is “Knowledge Sharing is Power!”
