Yorkshire Company Distributing Qibla Cola
Started at the beginning of this year Excell Distribution Services based in Dewsbury is already making a name for itself in Yorkshire. Having won a contract with the producers of Qibla-Cola, a new alternative soft drink to rival the big brands, this local distributor has had his hands full, quite literally. Shafkat Hussain, who set up the Yorkshire-based company, said that “we’ve already sold 400,000 bottles and demand is growing all the time. People are really going for the taste and a chance to make a difference”.
Qibla, meaning direction, was set up in January and is a Derby-based company founded by an Asian businesswoman. Zahida Parveen came up with the idea of alternative soft drinks with a strong ethical slant after having realised the way in which many multi-nationals were associated with supporting unjust causes. Entering the market with the commitment of contributing 10% of company profits to world causes has allowed her and the Qibla Cola Company to obtain an unprecedented level of support.
For Shafkat this represented a chance to establish a new local business, one which is able to employ locally and contribute to the community. “We’ve already got over 10 people on board and with five different tastes to choose from, we think that both our business and the contribution we make will grow”, he said.
Excell Distribution Services already supplies the Yorkshire and Lancashire area, including Leeds, Bradford, Manchester, Sheffield, Rotherham and Liverpool. As business grows, they expect to increase the warehouse space required and will be looking to take on new drivers.
