‘WHAASSUP’ WITH DOUBLE MAXIM Wearside beer ‘Double Maxim’ is exported to the

Double Maxim beer, originally brewed by Vaux Brewery has been resurrected by former Vaux directors Doug Trotman and Mark Anderson. The pair have scooped a big order for this newly revived beer from the United States thanks to the assistance of Trade Partners UK.

Following the relaunch of the beer in the pubs and clubs of the North East, the Double Maxim Beer Co was keen to export it abroad, with the USA being its first target.

Trade Partners UK was bringing over a group of Californian buyers to London and the international trade adviser for Double Maxim Beer Co, John Doolan of Business Link Tyne & Wear, made sure the company was invited.

In particular, Trade Partners UK made arrangements for one of the directors to meet the buyer from “Trader Joe’s”, a Passadena-based retail outlet with 120 branches, and provided extensive information on all aspects of exporting the company’s product to the USA.

Double Maxim Beer Co was initially asked to quote for the supply of a 20ft container or a 40ft container full of beer. But when the order came in it was for two 40ft containers - that’s 3250 cases or 42,240 bottles. In addition, a further 15 cases of beer were requested for a party - an order that Maxims was only too happy to fill - free of charge.

Doug Trotman, director Double Maxim Beer Co, commented: “We are delighted that we have been able to find a new market for this beer which has been brewed locally since 1901. Trade Partners UK is very good at facilitating all the difficult bits and taking the fear out of exporting.

“I personally had no experience of exporting and Trade Partners UK was on hand to take me through all the necessary steps by providing me with valuable contacts, which has resulted in this very profitable first order.

“We have doubled this month’s turnover due to our export sales and anticipate they could represent 20 percent of our total sales by the end of our second year in business.”
