Celebrity Kardashian Parents to Give Teleclass on... Parenting?!
Added: (Sat May 10 2008)
This past week, a few of the 6,000 subscribers to a step parenting newsletter began fuming when the newsletter's publisher, blended families authority Emily Bouchard, announced her plans to interview the parents in the reality TV show "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" as part of her "Ask The Experts" teleconference series on May 15th.
A few subscribers believe that "Keeping up with the Kardashians" does not appear to impart beneficial tactics for effectively blending two step-families. One respondent used language somewhat less sensitive in relating how Kris Jenner allows her girls to "dress like whores". Others judged the girls' starlet actions to be "embarrassing" and "frightening".
The first subscriber to respond to the interview, "L.W." out of Pennsylvania, wrote, "What a disgrace to those of us who are actually working hard, day in and day out, without the cameras rolling, without getting paid, without getting famous simply because our children made a sex tape. And what a disgrace that you would hold them out to be paradigms of blended-family success."
Of Bouchard's choice to interview the celebrity parents, another step mother commented, "Their children's unhealthy, immoral lifestyle is a disgrace...."
Responding to her subscribers, Bouchard pointed out, "Every family is different and perhaps not the moral ideal of others, but, in our opinion, that is no reason for us to discount their successes as a blended family."
Along with being happily married for 17 years, Bruce and Kris have also successfully steered a household composed of 10 children ranging in age from 11 to 35, with active careers and the added strain of celebrity status.
On their reality show, Bruce obviously likes visiting with the children and understanding their world. When Bruce sees an opportunity make a difference in the lives of one of his stepchildren, he takes a "less is more" strategy.
On one episode the youngest siblings were mimicking some less than polite behavior of their older sister, Kim. Kim was furious when she overheard the little girls because she saw it as rude and disrespectful. She complained to Bruce who listened carefully. He then shrewdly asked Kim how she felt about the reality check she was getting as the little girls copied her voice and words.
Another episode illustrating Bruce’s step parenting savvy involved Kris' son. Robert announced he was dropping out of college to pursue a less than firm modeling job in Japan. Kris was very upset and tried to reason with him. Bruce quietly reminded him of the commitment Robert had made to his deceased father, Robert Kardashian, that he would finish college. Bruce chose to connect with what he knew was most important to Robert, and invited him to be in integrity in his course of action. After sleeping on it, Robert made the wise decision to stay and complete school.
