FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (FILM): CASTRO’S DAUGHTER LANDS MOVIE DEAL WITH OSCAR POWERED PRODUCTION TEAM.
Hollywood, CA May 12, 2008— Moresco Productions, headed by Oscar winning filmmaker Bobby Moresco, co-writer and producer of Crash, and co-producer of Million Dollar Baby, has teamed up with Austin based Artists Relations Group (ARG) to produce the riveting true story of Alina Fernandez, the only daughter of Cuba’s long time communist leader, Fidel Castro.
The story begins in the aftermath of Fidel Castro, alongside revolutionary Che Guevara, taking power in Cuba in 1958. Fernandez spent her childhood in the shadows, only learning at the age of ten that the man who visited her at night and whom she saw on TV every day was her father.
In 1993, after years of being silenced about her personal differences with her father, she risked permanent exile from Cuba when, disguised as Spanish tourist, she fled first to Spain then to the US, where she’s been living in exile ever since. Fernandez is recognized worldwide as one of the most outspoken of Castro’s relatives. Fernandez will be directly involved in the film as a story consultant, as well as with media relations.
The story will be told through historical perspectives and will be inspired by Alina’s life growing up as the daughter of one of the most controversial leaders in history.
Financing for development was provided by The Lamy Group—a privately held company based in Austin.
