Octaber 5, 2008, Webservices-international has instituted a new Code Signing Certificate, which allows authors to “sign” their code to protect their software and published content.
This new Code Signing Certificate reassures users that it’s the real thing and is safe to download or install. If the original code has been altered, users will be warned that content is not to be trusted. The new Code Signing Certificates are fully integrated with industry-standard technology, support Microsoft© Authenticode and Java, and work with software applications, Active X controls, .DLLs, .CABs, HTML content, even Microsoft© Office documents with macros.
Deb Shinder of WindowsSecurity.com states: “Code signing lets you know the origin of the code, and prevents a hacker from distributing ‘free software’ in someone else’s name (for example, putting a malicious program or virus on a Web site for download and claiming that it’s a free tool from Microsoft). In addition to verifying the identity of the publisher, code signing can protect the code from tampering (if the code is changed, the digital signature is invalidated). Thus, code signing provides two security protections:
·Authentication of the author, publisher or distributor of the code
·Integrity of the code itself. ”
Microsoft© defines digital certificates as: “A certificate is a set of data that completely identifies an entity, and is issued by a certification authority (CA) only after that authority has verified the entity's identity. The data set includes the entity's public cryptographic key. When the sender of a message signs the message with its private key, the recipient of the message can use the sender's public key (retrieved from the certificate either sent with the message or possibly available elsewhere in the directory service) to verify the sender's identity.”
To further enhance security for software developers and publishers, Webservices-international has upgraded its dedicated servers to Windows Server© , which allows for increased control, stability and security. If you use Microsoft© outlook©, you can enjoy the security of having fast, secure, ultra-reliable email delivered directly to your Outlook© inbox. Webservices’ built-in connection to the New Microsoft© Outlook© email plans are easier and more convenient than ever before.
