KNAUF INSULATION INSULATES TV PRESENTER’S NATIONAL CAMPAIGN FOR SUCCESS

Added: (Mon Oct 12 2009)

St Helens based, Knauf Insulation has joined forces with TVs leading home improvement expert, Kevin McCloud, to roll out the Grand Designs Great British Refurb Campaign, an initiative to help every household in the UK go green.

As part of the campaign the Government will be asked for help to make it easier, more affordable and more attractive for everyone to go green at home.

Last week, Kevin secured the support of some senior figures from Parliament which included the Energy and Climate Change secretary, Ed Miliband, when they helped him to insulate a model house outside London’s Houses of Parliament using locally produced products from Knauf Insulation.

The event was organised to show Ministers how simple improvements such as laying insulation can greatly help homes across the UK become more energy efficient. The event also paved the way for the next stage in Kevin’s campaign which was the handing over of an online petition to Gordon Brown.

The petition was delivered on Thursday 16th July and contained over 8,000 names some of which were those of Knauf Insulation employees.

Lydia Sharples head of communications at Knauf Insulation said: “Cutting energy use in the home can save homeowners money, in some cases yearly energy bills can be reduced by as much as £150* as a result of installing insulation in your loft.

“However, the upfront costs associated with other ‘green home improvements’ can put people off taking steps towards a more energy efficient home. For this reason we fully support the initiative in persuading the Government to help finance simple refurbishments and in turn helping to reduce its energy targets.

“As a manufacturer operating in the North West we want to encourage local residents to get behind the campaign. There’s still more actions to come in our ambition to encourage the Government to get behind the Great British Refurb campaign and as a manufacturer operating in the North West we are encouraging all residents to sign up as this could potentially add 6.8 million signatures!”
