Xara X beats Corel, Macromedia for coveted award

San Francisco, California - September 6th, 2001: Xara Ltd today has won a coveted Web Tools Award for its vector graphics program, Xara X.
Xara X took one of the top awards in the Design category during this year’s Web Tool Awards ceremony held at the Web2001 Conference. Competition was incredibly fierce this year, with nominees that Xara beat out for the award including such industry heavyweights as Corel Draw 10, Macromedia Freehand 10, as well as Deneba Canvas 8 Pro.
WebTechniques, which manages the event, said: “The Web Tools Awards recognize the most innovative proprietary and open source products used in each stage of the Web development and maintenance process: strategy, design, development, and infrastructure. The (awards ceremony) will spotlight products within each category that have played a force in shaping the industry in the past year.”
Xara X is an advanced graphic illustration package for Windows, which offers unrivalled speed and a user interface that other developers have tried to imitate - such as context-sensitive infobars - but never matched. Producing illustrations is quick and easy using the sophisticated drawing tools, and many of the advanced features which Xara pioneered - such as transparency and real-time anti-aliasing - can be applied to both vector and bitmap images.
